9 Month Old Thor Has a Luxating Patella... Yay...

Thor has been limping for quite some time... I thought maybe he just pulled something, but after weeks of no improvement, I had my boyfriend take him to the vet yesterday morning... Aaaaaaannnd he has a luxating patella on the right side... Aaaaaannnd they recommended surgery... I'm going to try to hurry up and get my taxes done so that maybe I'll have the $600-800 to get the surgery done by a good orthopedic vet... This sucks...




I have tried about 200 times to get the picture the right way up... Have no idea which direction it's facing now...

I'm sorry to hear that Thor needs surgery, but it sounds like he's been in some discomfort. Poor boy.

He limps when he's too active... He tends to be a little chunky, so we're keeping his weight down and we're also giving him joint supplements... As soon as I get my tax return I'll make an appointment with the orthopedic vet...

That sucks! My Khan has a luxating patella. It is low grade and the orthopedic vet did not feel surgery was necessary... even though the vet I saw at the time thought it was.

I'm wondering if there is an ACL tear... It is not typical to cause limping or pain. The way the specialist described it to me is the knee pops out( luxates). It hurts at that point, then it pops back in and it is like it never happened. It can develop arthritis in the area. I've had my boy on Osteo Big flex since the diagnosis as well as fish oil. He us now around 8 yrs old and still doing fine. He lost a decent amount of weight when I switched him to raw a few years back. I try and keep him trim.
