Hi! My name is Kristie. I'm 38 and a single mom to two teenaged daughters, one pit bull, and a herd of rabbits. I am also a foster mom for Ambassador Pit Bull Rescue. My current foster is Admiral, whose picture I saw is already in another section of the forum.
I live in Northern VA, close to DC. Besides volunteering, my favorite things to do are sing on karaoke night, read commercial fiction (meaning I am not a book snob, I like to read stuff I don't have to ponder a whole lot), and take lots of naps.
I was introduced to pit bulls the first time I volunteered with an all breed rescue as a handler at petsmart events. I knew nothing about them, including what they looked like, and when I found out I had been handling one for four hours without being eaten I was pretty shocked. Not only was I not eaten, my dog was the best behaved one in chaotic close quarters. It was then that I started reading everything I could find about them. Being a quick study, it wasn't long before I was considered to be a "pit bull person" by the other folks at the all breed rescue. I handled them, fostered them, and did most of the interviews for their adoptions. That was a little more than 10 years ago.
Jezebel is my dog. She's the fawn one in my avatar. She was my very first foster failure and has been my "favorite" for the last 8 years. She came to my house when she was six months old (she was one of those rare dogs who actually came into rescue with papers, which I threw straight into the trash, as I had no intention of breeding her). She was an owner surrender, given up at a Petsmart store near my house. She and I bonded before we even made it home that evening. She is my soul dog.
I look forward to reading about everyone else's dogs and the other stuff you guys post about here!
