18 mo. old pup & already needs 2 new knees

Postby wynnstone » Sat Mar 23, 2013 6:21 pm

Ahhh! I just adopted Blueberry 7 months ago & we're in for 2 new knees. The high cost has forced me in searching for funding. Pass along the link. I need as much help as I can get.

Blueberry really hasn't had a 'sound' day since I got her. I could never pinpoint where she was off. I couldn't tell if it was front or back, left or right. Sometimes I thought she was sore in 2 legs. Well about a month ago, I took her out for a short 'shuck the ball' round. We had been cooped up while taking care of my husband who just had a double knee replacement. (I don't think knee replacements are contagious!?) We got home, I fed her & turned around & she was on 3 legs...not putting any weight on her rear left. I took her to the vet & several xrays later...she had a compromised left knee with arthritis, suspect right knee & an old bone injury on her right leg. She was rescued from LA from a breeder...no telling what happened or when. My vet could not get Blueberry to show any pain. She was so stoic. Not a growl or a whimper. I was referred to a specialist. He nailed the diagnosis immediately upon a physical exam. Blueberry whimpered... Long story short...she need 'TPLO' surgery in both knees. Left on immediately, right one later.

She's now on pain killers, no activity (try doing that with a 16 mo pit bull). She's slowly destroying her right knee protecting her left, so now she needs the right asap after the left. Needless to say...with my husband having two knee replacements & 2 eye surgeries in the last 6 weeks, funds are low...therefore the call for help. Her first surgery is 3/29. Please pass along the link to as many friends as you can. I will post updates & pictures as we go along.

I forgot to add...Blueberry is worth every penny. She is the best dog. I have had alot of dogs...mostly large mutts. When I adopted her, my choices were pit bulls or chihuahuas. I took a chance & it was the best thing I ever did. I trust her more with my grandkids than any of our other dogs. Thanks for the help.

Have you looked into Care Credit? They will help you pay for the surgeries. I'm about to have a surgery on my old girl that I can't afford up front, and that's who I'm going through. Just a thought...

I looked into Care Credit. It's not available with the vet I'm working with. Our vet cut us a deal & found a orthopedic surgeon to come in. The the specialist I took Blueberry takes it, but they wanted $600 more per leg. Just couldn't justify it; even it the surgeon was the best.

I donated! She needs to get back out on the trails with Diego and Batman.
Just a few small donations would help out this deserving pup!

I feel for you. Our rescue pup nelle is about 16 months and she constantly blows her rear knees out running too fast. Her litter mate does the same thing and shes had surgery on both legs. Nelle hurt her left knee then just as it seemed healed up for a week we let her back in the yard and she blows the other one out running. Im half tempted to get her a big plastic hampster ball that she fits inside of to slow her down :).

I thought you handled yourself really well when questioned about spending "that much on a dog". The fact that you care about your pup this much is proof that shes better off with you than anywhere else in the world. Who else could you trust to fight this hard for her besides you?

I'm going to post at facebook and hopefully get Blueberry some help. In the mean time...for extra money i build websites. This is my portfolio http://www.39websites.com/portfolio.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . It will give you an example of what my capabilities are. If you have an auction for donations or maybe if you know someone who wants a website anyway...please let me know. I would like to donate a "5 page website for $100 donation to Blueberry". Or "10 page website for $200 donation to Blueberry".

So if you get 1 person or 20 people who want to trade a website for a donation im game. Good Luck.
