My name is Megan, I am 20 years old and I live in Queensland Australia. I work part time and am studying a simple online university course in financial planning.
I have grown up with dogs of all sizes (from Jack Russells to Great Danes) and passionate about their health and happiness, I will be adopting my very first pitbull puppy in 10 - 12 weeks (the litter was born yesterday and all the pups are unwanted, despite being pure bred) I am starting to organise my house and collect all the required "stuff" to bring home the little guy or girl, I do have a few questions and I thought who better to ask than you guys
While I have never actually had a puppy of my own as my family never purposefully get animals, we adopt/rescue any unwanted pets, I have had quite a lot of pets in my life (also helped I grew up in Zimbabwe, Africa) Horses, Cattle, a baby elephant named Dandy, Birds, cats, rats, mice, a snake, rabbits, Dogs, fish, several types of deer, the list does go on a bit... But I only have theoretical knowledge on how to raise a well mannered puppy, no actual experience, so it's going to be a big learning curve for me, but I am hoping that with the advice from a few Pitbull lovers and quite a bit of research in the next few weeks I can do it
I intend on taking the little one to the puppy pre-school classes, not because I doubt my ability to teach him/her basic manners but because I think it's a safe and easy way to start socialising my pup, and a few of my close friends with well behaved dogs have all agreed in advance to bring their dogs over as well. If the pup seems to enjoy the pre-school I will also do the other 'classes' right up to the boot camp, as it's an invaluable way to spend time with your dog, keep it's mind active and of course let it enjoy the company of other dogs. And a trip out to my parents house to get the little one used to cats, horses, cattle, and what ever other adopted animals my parents have at the moment, I don't expect my new addition to like all the animals, just to give them their space and be calm is all I want from any dog
other than animals my hobbies include; reading, swimming, horse riding, polo and polo X, movies, going to the beach and of course my family
Looking forward to being a part of this community and hopefully raising a happy well balanced pitbull with advise from everyone
