Winter/Cold Weather Shampoo Recommendations?

Postby Ntchwaidumela » Sat Dec 07, 2013 10:29 pm

Happy Holidays Fellow PBF Members-

With the cold weather upon some of us members, our fur babies our exposed to cold, dry and sometimes snowy weather that takes a toll on their skin and coat's and was wondering besides adding fat (in Jakes case, salmon oil and raw eggs) to their diet, I was wonder what about shampoos? Is there a good moisturizing shampoo that will help with dry, flaking skin?

Jake already uses Earthbath's Oatmeal and Aloe product but was wondering if there is anything better or do you folks do anything extra for your dog's skin and coat in these cold months?

Thanks to all those reply

Happy Hollidays :headbang:

The best thing I've found for dandruff in 9 years of grooming is Nature's Choice oatmeal conditioner. It's miraculous.

Bathing actually strips oils from the skin, so avoiding a bath is best if possible.

If your dog stinks or needs medicated baths, then using/following with an oatmeal shampoo or oatmeal cream rinse is best.

X2, we don't give ours baths in the winter unless for some odd reason they really need one. Besides what you're already doing, I think an occasional brush with the zoom groom helps. I think that Earthbath shampoo is great, that's what we use, and I think the salmon oil helps a lot too.

Tropiclean OxyMed medicated rinse. It makes them so soft. And is pretty soothing. It's like a conditioner. I always use it when they get a Dawn flea bath to restore moisture since that strips it. It's great for dry skin.

Mine also does not get bathed in winter. No reason to, since it's hard to get covered in mud in -20c :)

Her skin and coat are awesome at this time of year.
