Greetings from Galunker! (Okay, his writer)

Hi all! Lovely to be here.

I noticed that a thread has been started here about a book I'm writing, Galunker, featuring a rescued pit bull. There was praise, but also legitimate criticism, which the illustrator (Dula Yavne) and I have in fact addressed on Kickstarter as a result of feedback.

The thread is here:

http://www.pitbullforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=158547

The concern was that we were using the term "evil shelter". I've added lines to indicate that not ALL shelters are evil:

(NOTE: we're not suggesting that all shelters are evil, by any means. Only the ones that kill perfectly healthy pit bulls, just for being pit bulls. And these are unfortunately far from rare.)

(You can find this emendation on the Kickstarter site: http://bit.ly/galunker)

Important to note that the shelters targeted in the book are the kill shelters that contribute to the massacre of nearly a million so-called "pit bulls" every year. The ones that are approved of by PETA's president in this article:

http://www.sfgate.com/opinion/openforum/article/Controlling-an-animal-as-deadly-as-a-weapon-2629558.php

I should note that I've added lines to the book's text as well, to clarify this:

Some shelters are wondrous; some shelters have worth;
Some sheltering people are angels on earth.

But this was a pound of the opposite kind,
A pound that you'll find was with Evil aligned.[/quote]

I certainly have not trouble with No Kill shelters -- in fact, I've devoted thousands of words to the promotion of this movement.

Please keep the comments coming -- we're VERY open to criticism, and the book is at a state in which it can be easily altered. The point is to save pit bulls, which we certainly won't accomplish if we divide the community.

Any way of editing posts? The quotation should read:

Some shelters are wondrous; some shelters have worth;
Some sheltering people are angels on earth.

But this was a pound of the opposite kind,
A pound that you'll find was with Evil aligned.

Wait. PETA approved shelters? The sane organization that condones and supports BSL?

Much, much more research needs to be done before the book is something I would support.

I'm glad you're open to criticism.

Bahahaha sane. Same* organization.

Also, re-reading your post, I realize you're aware of PETA being something that works against our mission.

Have you heard of or checked out Beyond Breed? She's on Facebook.

Um, I've been served with papers by PETA, who announced they were suing me for libel. They then slunk off when neither I nor the Huffington Post would retract a word. The shelters "with Evil aligned" are the kill shelters aligned with *Ingrid Newkirk's vicious organization.*

Trust me: I've been researching this for years. I wrote an eight-part series on PETA's shelter killing -- it was shortlisted for a national award. As for their stance on pully breeds -- here's a small article about PETA and BSL:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/douglas-anthony-cooper/kens-dog-ran-away-on-chri_b_4539180.html

(You probably won't like the reference to Cesar Milan. I know that he's controversial, and I disagree with him regarding a number of things. But when it comes to bully breeds, his heart is in the right place.)

Please don't write off Galunker before looking into what we're about.

(I meant "bully", not "pully")

As for the series of articles PETA was going to sue me for, they start here:

"PETA's Celebs: Naked in the Name of Mass Pet Slaughter" -- http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/douglas-anthony-cooper/peta-kill_b_1352462.html

You and I are on the same side. Believe me.

You can't simultaneously abuse dogs and advocate for them, so Cesar is a HUGE issue for me.

Yeah, as I say: I'm in favor of his positive noise about pit bulls. Not so much some of the other stuff.

By the way, how do I get permission to post elsewhere on the site?

(And thanks, Nickdawg!)
