First post, go intro! Just wanted to say hey and I'm quite pleased to find such a lively forum devoted to such a great breed. I'm currently located in Syracuse, NY, and while I do not own a Pit myself [ yet!
] I am a firm supporter in them.
I've had four years kennel experience, 6 months pet shop kennel experience [ before I couldn't stand seeing pups in cages
] and now work as a grooming assistant at a local PetCo.
We're one of the only stores in the vicinity that will groom PitBulls, most are banned on sight. Indeed, some of our customers call and try to book appointments as "lab mixes" or "short haired mixes" before showing up with a full blooded pit.
I feel for those that feel compelled to hide their dog in such a fashion.
It is, however, a big area for fostering the negative image of pits, the majority of the ones we care for have the fully cropped ears and numerous bite marks denoting their fighting nature. Sadly we can do little but give them love and affection the 3 hours we have them, clean their scrapes and strongly advise vet care.
I'm hoping to garner enough literature and advice here to promote the fight to protect these lovable dogs and their reputation
I'm sure I'll wind along on some other long winded post later , but that's an intro for now.
