Honey's left eye is very red and shuts quite a bit from some sort of infection/irritation.

I've been prescribed several powerful medicine's, used them as directed, still no results.

Does anyone here have experience with this type of problem?

Her eye is very red and then shuts like someone punched her. This goes on for a day or two then she'll go several days even weeks without a problem. It comes and goes.

And my Angel (the one who just had sugery to get the ball out of her belly) is sneezing while standing, but when she lays down it's fine. She also makes a huffing sound when I play with her. Any ideas?

What kind of medicine did your doctor give and what was the diagnosis?

Could be conjunctivitis, could be a scratch(if so, they would have put a stain on the eye to see it).

I some cases, lack of tear production and glaucoma can cause these signs but they are not likely at all.

Another thing that can cause this-if an eyelid is slightly turned inwards, it can rub the eye or a lash can rub the eye causing chronic irritation.

Is there any dirt or any contaminant she might be getting into every now and then? That is also a poss...

She doesn't have any scratches, the vet checked for dirt, and he found nothing like that involved.

The medicine's are:

Vetrachloracin - ointment

Prednisolone Acetate Ophthalmic
Suspension USP - Eye drops.

He said it was an infection. Her inner eyelids are visible quite often and I think they are infected or something like that.

You should make sure he stained the eye to check for scratches. If he didnt, there may be some that are NOT visible to the naked eye.

If the eye is scratched, steriods actually PREVENT healing(same with ulcers)-you might just want to make sure.

Otherwise, you may have an infection resistant to the meds your vet gave...they may recommend a diff type of antibiotic-make sure you give it for the full length of time, even if it looks healed.

He stained the her eyes.

I've given her the meds as directed and still no progress.

I will see what he says tomorrow when I take both my girls in for their check-up, stictch removal, etc...

Man, I only have two but it seems like there's thirty dogs living here with all the expenses. I wouldn't have it any other way.

ask your vet if he/she can prescribe Neo/Poly/Dex ointment. My pup has recurring tear duct infections, and my vet gave me a couple tubes saying that it is a cure-all wonder eye ointment. It works for Aiko, and your problem sounds different, but I think that it would also work for you if your vet is willing to give it a shot. My sister who is a vet tech also highly recommends it for eye infection problems.

Cinder, it's still messed up.

I've spoken to my vet about getting some different medicine. But I have a sneaky suspision it may be a food allergy. I'm currently trying to prove or disprove my hunch by feeding a different food to her.

I'll take a pic of her eye soon and post it.

Right now it's not closed but very red.

I'm really sorry to hear that she's no better.

I'm afraid that I don't know a thing about eye infections. My dog has severe allergies but they don't affect his eyes at all.

I hope he gives you a different medicine for her. Would you ever consider an eye specialist, or a second opinion?


I did cat rescue for a few years and used chamomile tea on some of the cats. It's not going to cure her, but it's soothing. I used a compress and applied when the tea was slightly warm.

Yes, I would consider an eye specialist or a second opinion.

I've been looking around the web for some information and trying to find pictures of eye infections so I can compare. So far I've come up empty.

I'm starting to think it may not be a food allergy because it only happens to one eye. Her other eye does it sometimes but not as bad and we've almost got that stopped completely with the current meds.

Her right eye is bad though she's better now but it's still very red around the edges and the white of the eye is dark red. Almost crimson in color.

I don't know if this link will be of any help but it's all that I could find. (I'm having company and will ask her (Vet tech) if she has any ideas.) Her cat is having eye surgery tommorrow.

I don't think it sounds like a food allergy either.

I think another opinion might be a good idea at this point.

Thanks for the link, there's one Cunjunctiva that looks similar to what happens to her eye. I'm going to ask my vet when we see him this week.
