Brooklyn Shelters

Since there are a few New Yorkers on here I was wondering if any of you know any shelters in Brooklyn? I wan to volunteer but I do not want to ride the train for over an hour to the city, so I am looking for something closer. I called up BARC (Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition) but they told me no because I am 17 (18 in October).

Anyway.. would love to help out, know of any?
