Hi from Baltimore

Greetings all. I am a new pit/rott mix owner and a pittie enthusiast. I first fell in love with this breed 3 years ago through volunteering at the Humane Society. As many of you probably know, our shelters are overflowing with these misunderstood lovebugs.

Now, 3 years later, I am finally a proud pit mix mom. Upon going up to the shelter one day to volunteer, my fiancee and I met our soul mate Marty. I can't even say that we picked him - he really picked us. We knew that he would complete our fur family (which previously was only 3 kitties).

We've had Marty for 8 months and its been an adventure so far! Owning a pit mix has been quite different than the labs I grew up with. First, we quickly discovered that Marty is dog selective. We've been doing tons of reading and lots of closely supervised doggy socialization (with pre-screened candidates). He has improved so much already! I hope one day he will be a good ambassador for pit mixes. Second, I actually wasn't prepared for the discrimination we've met. As soon as I mention the word pit, people gasp or look at me funny. Just last night I was trying to rent a pet friendly hotel room - I told the guy I had a mutt and he said "as long as he's not a pit mix." Quite sad. :(

A little about me - I'm 27, born and raised in Baltimore. I went to school for architecture but am currently doing Interior Design. I'm a vegetarian and love all animals regardless of size, shape or stereotype :)

Here's a few pics:
